Serge, forgive the following somewhat negative post....

I would be concerned with using a cocobolo fretboard due to the sensitizer issues associated with it. Eventually you can develope a rash on your fingers from it. You would have to somehow seal it really good to keep the oils from leaching out and causing dermatological issues.

Food for thought....

Thanks Mike!

Thanks Don for the obvious health concern and it's a very important point too, would you have any suggestions as to what to use as a sealer to prevent dermatological issues, not really for me because i've handled that piece more than once but more for my uncle who will receive that guitar?

TIA

Serge

Coat it in CA ... then buff it with 0000 steel wool.

Thanks Tony!

Oh and guys, what would you think of a coco headplate veneer and coco bridge to go along with that fretboard? Would it look too dark altogether? Forgot to take a pic again! Dang!

Sorry!Serge Poirier39092.9147800926

A coco headplate will look great with it. I've used coco for a bridge before, and it's ok as well. I prefer Brazilian RW or ebony for bridges, but coco works fine. I like the idea of all three matching.
I've been working on a ziricote dreadnought for awhile (ok, it's been on the shelf for over a year) and I'm thinking of using ziricote for the headplate, fretboard and bridge also. I thought it might be interesting.

That will look very cool Don! I will try to remember to take a pic of the coco plank today with the bridge design drawn on it and put against the soundbox, it will give a better idea of what the whole guitar will look like, thanks!

Oh Don, finish that gitter so we can see it will ya?

Cheers

Serge

The problem with that, my dear friend Serge, is that I would have to come out of retirement to do it. I will have to debate that with myself for awhile. Of course that could take years....

Serge,

Sorry I'm late to the party here, but I'd like to offer an embellishment. There's also the option of adding some B/W/B veneer lines to your self-binding scheme. Just glue those first and cut your slots through them, then add the binding. I think it's a cool look, and it doesn't make your headstock cry out for binding, too.

Thanks Carlton, i don't have any B/W/B here but i do have recycled maple which i intend to use as very tiny purfs for the fretboard and headplate veneer, i think it would contrast well, what's your take on that buddy?

Serge,

Do you mean just a single maple line between the coco 'board and the coco bindings? I think that would look good. Your guitar is shaping up nicely--it's gonna look great!
